St. Patrick’s Day
Picnic in the Park
Recipes and Photos by Jessi Hampton @JustTryingRecipes
Green water flowing from the fountain in Forsyth Park officially marks the beginning of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Savannah. A tradition that now spans generations is said to have began in the middle of the 20th Century when a few hooligans decided to add green dye to the water. Today, the greening of the fountain is handled with care by the City’s Park and Tree Commission. Local children line up to pour a bucket of green dye, one at a time, wondering whose bucket will be the lucky one that changes the water from clear to green!
The Greening of the Fountain is a great excuse for a picnic with the kids. Here are a few ideas to pack as you prepare to celebrate the heritage of Savannah in beautiful Forsyth Park.
This year’s Greening of the Fountain will take place Friday, March 10 at noon.
